Homeroom Parent Guidelines

Classroom parties are generally allowed for Fall Celebration, Winter Holidays, Valentine's Day and the End of the Year. Parties tend to last approximately 45 minutes. The younger grades tend to run smoothly with a "center" type format. You may prefer to play a game such as Pictionary, Bingo, etc. If you choose to show an appropriate movie, please remember that it must be G-rated, unless you have prior approval by the classroom teacher and administration. After a game of activity, the students will have their snacks. All snacks must be store bought and kept sealed, no homemade items will be allowed. Red juices or Red sodas are not allowed at anytime. Apple juice or clear sodas are ideal for easy clean up. Please be aware of any possible food allergies that children in the class might have. For more food guidelines please see the guidelines page taken from the DVUSD website.

Fall Party - only Pre School and Kindergartners may wear costumes. They may dress as a storybook character. Please try not to have ghosts, witches, or scary items on the paper products.

Winter Party - usually held on the last day before Winter Break.

Valentine's Day Party - your classroom teacher will determine the best day.

End of the Year Party - usually held the last day of school.

These are simply some general guidelines for the class parties. However, you'll want to speak with your homeroom teacher for more specific guidelines. Some teachers may want to assist in planning parties, and others may leave it up to the homeroom parent(s). Do whatever works best for you, the teacher, and the class. The most important rule as a homeroom parent is DON'T DO everything yourself. There are usually many people who are willing to help. In your packet are several sample letters you can use to identify your parent volunteers for parties. Some parents may wish to attend a party, while others may wish to donate a store bought item or paper product. Parties run most smoothly when there are two or three parents to assist. Again, check with your classroom teacher, and what works best for you. Working in cooperation with your classroom teacher will make all your parties run more smoothly. Most importantly, HAVE FUN!! You've got a big job, but an extremely rewarding job.
